TotalEnergies Forms Partnership with Rönesans Holding for Renewable Energy Generation in Türkiye

21 July 2023
TotalEnergies has inked a deal with Rönesans Holding to acquire a 50% stake in Rönesans Enerji, paving the way for collaborative efforts in renewable energy projects within Türkiye's burgeoning electricity market.
Rönesans Enerji proudly holds a comprehensive investment portfolio of 700 MW, encompassing projects in wind and solar energy, battery systems, and a hydroelectric power portfolio featuring a total installed capacity of 166 MW.

Rönesans Enerji is poised to leverage TotalEnergies' expertise in onshore wind and solar development, along with its proficiency in electricity trading. With Rönesans Holding's extensive knowledge of the Turkish electricity market, this strategic collaboration aims to accomplish the ambitious target of generating 2 GW of renewable energy by 2028.

The generated electricity will be directly sold to the electricity market or through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with buyers. Given the favorable renewable energy potential in Türkiye, these projects are highly cost-competitive; this aligns with Rönesans Enerji's strategy of functioning as an integrated player in the electricity markets, taking advantage of price fluctuations. Additionally, these projects are anticipated to contribute significantly to the Integrated Energy Business Unit's double-digit profitability targets.

Stéphane Michel, President of Gas, Renewables & Power at TotalEnergies, expressed his satisfaction with the partnership: "We are thrilled to join forces with Rönesans, which has a broad portfolio of assets across hydropower, wind, and solar energy. Given the size of the Turkish market and the quality of renewable energy sites in the country, we believe that this new partnership represents the right step towards reaching our goal of profitably developing our Integrated Energy operations. I am also pleased that this partnership will help revitalize Türkiye's renewable energy sector."

Erman Ilıcak, President of Rönesans Holding, shared his perspective on the matter: "We find renewable energy investments both in Türkiye and around the world extremely valuable. In order to play an active role in Türkiye's green energy transformation, it is crucial for us to collaborate with a reputable and influential global player. We are delighted to invest in green projects together with TotalEnergies. We are proud to add a new partner to our global shareholders and to invest in our country."

The transaction is subject to regulatory and administrative approvals.
